Foal diary

Naval Crown

Bay colt by Dubawi out of Come Alive

Hi there! I was born at Sheikh Mohammed’s Gainsborough Stud in Berkshire on Monday, 5 February, 2018. It was very chilly to start with all the snow around but I’m enjoying the sunshine out in the fields now summer’s here. I’m the first foal for my mum Come Alive who was born in Newmarket but raced in France. My dad is one of the best stallions in the world, his name is Dubawi and he lives at Dalham Hall Stud in Newmarket. Dad’s other foals have won some of the greatest races across the planet, talk about sibling rivalry!

It’s been a while since I last spoke to you and a lot has happened in 2019! I’ve become far more independent and since leaving my mum, I moved to Ireland with some of my other yearling friends. We now live at Old Connell Stud, the same farm my dad Dubawi was raised at when he was a yearling.

Later this year, I start school where I’ll learn to carry a saddle and eventually a rider, meaning I’m one step closer to following in my Dad’s footsteps. For now though, I’m happy to just eat and sleep.

It’s 2020 and I am now officially a racehorse. I left Old Connell Stud last October and returned to the UK to meet my new trainer Charlie Appleby. He is one of Godolphin’s main trainers and has helped a lot of horses win some very important races.

I learnt to carry a rider and was desperate to get to my first race but the country went into lockdown just as the racing season started so I had to wait a little longer. It did give my owners time to give me my official name which is Naval Crown.

Luckily, they gave us the all clear and I got to my very first race just down the road at the Newmarket July course. I tried my best but was a little inexperienced although I still managed to finish third which was a great start.
