Nova Roma

Bay colt by Golden Horn out of Ragsah

Hi there! I was born at Rutland Stud on 2 May 2017 and have been living there with my mum ever since. Her name is Ragsah, which is a name you might not have heard of but I bet you’ve heard about her half-brother who was one of the greatest racehorses in the world and Sheikh Mohammed’s favourite, Dubai Millennium. Mind you, my dad was pretty super on the racecourse too – his name is Golden Horn and he won four Group One races including the Epsom Derby and the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe.

I turned one on the 1st January 2018 and I am now classed as a yearling. I have moved to White Lodge Stud near Newmarket to live and play with the other young colts (or male horses). We spend our days galloping around the paddock. I am the one in the middle in the photo above with the pretty white star on my head.

Hey, I’m now officially a three-year-old and it’s been a busy year since we last spoke! I have been named Nova Roma. I left White Lodge Stud a month before my 2nd birthday to start my racing education. I was taught to carry a saddle and then eventually a rider which meant I got my first taste of racehorse life going up the gallops!

Later that year, my owners had decided I would join John Gosden’s yard, the same person who trained my dad Golden Horn. I finally made my racecourse debut last October at Kempton. I was a bit late coming out the starting stalls, but my jockey looked after me and I managed to finish in an ok position. My trainer thinks I’ll be quite good, I’m just inexperienced and I learnt a lot from my first run. Watch out, I’ll get them next time!

I won on my second outing to the races in June, this time I ran in Windsor and I beat eight other horses! I can’t wait to run in some more races!
